Preventing Tooth Decay
All of us will suffer from tooth decay because it is a natural part of life. Eating and drinking will lead to tooth decay as the foods we consume have carbohydrates that start to wear down the enamel on our teeth and eventually form cavities. The good news is tooth decay can be prevented if you will follow proper oral health tips from Sunset Dental.
Take notice of your mouth right now by rubbing you tongue across your teeth. Can you feel a filmy substance? This is plaque that is starting to eat away at the enamel of your teeth. Brush your teeth after each meal and try to floss 1-2 times per day to remove food that is lodged in between the teeth. In between meals drink plenty of water to stimulate the flow of saliva in the mouth and to help wash the teeth.
Visit your office yearly to have routine examinations and cleanings. They can remove any plaque that is starting to stick to the teeth and can also teach you how to floss and other ways in which you can prevent tooth decay.
Avoid sodas and other foods that are high in sugar. Acidic foods can also lead to tooth decay so it’s best to limit your intake of these foods as well. After you eat, try to brush your teeth or at least try to rinse out your mouth. Foods will remain in the mouth for up to 90 minutes after eating and they will continue to attack your teeth and cause cavities.
By going in for yearly cleaning and examinations your Dentist will be able to catch tooth decay before it gets worse. They will also be able to check on the gums to make sure they are also healthy and that bacteria is not infecting them and causing bad breath and other issues.
