Root canals are commonly used when a tooth has become infected to the point where it would need to be extracted if you do not consider a root canal. In many cases, the tooth will lead to infection and pain. Sunset Dental Care provides root canal treatment to safely and expertly save a tooth from extraction by performing this treatment. We provide assistance to patients needing to learn more about root canals, and to determine if this is the best treatment method for their oral health needs.
Root Canal Treatment
Endodontics is branch of dentistry that deals with diseases related to the pulp of a tooth. While the teeth used to be pulled, root canal treatment allows patients to save the tooth by removing the pulp and covering the tooth with a crown. The pulp is the soft tissue within the tooth that consists of blood vessels and nerves. The pulp can become infected and inflamed, leading to pain. In many cases, the pulp has been irritated from prior treatment. Bacteria that enters the pulp starts to infect the tooth, causing severe pain and inflammation. Without treatment, the tooth will need to be removed.
Root canals are recommended, as they save the tooth from extraction. As the tooth is still in the jawbone, it will continue to stimulate the jaw, allowing blood to deliver nutrients to the area. Keeping the jawbone healthy will prevent your physical appearance from being altered. Without the jawbone staying healthy, it can start to shrink away, which can cause you to have a misshapen appearance.
